Grand Bend, ON – May-20, 2013 – The first of the four event series for the National Drag Racing Association (NDRA) wound up at Grand Bend Motorplex’s “Spring Blowout” presented by RPM Magazine and Lucas Oil on Sunday with a successful start for 2013.

Saturday’s qualifying resulted in some satisfying numbers for both the NDRA Alcohol Funny Cars presented by Ohsweken Speedway and Pro Doorslammers. Last year’s NDRA AFC champion, Larry Dobbs of Welland, ON took the top qualifying spot with a 5.89 at 246 mph. Dylan Hache of London, ON wheeled in for second position in the battle of the Funny Car “Birds”.

On the Pro Doorslammer side, London, Ontario’s Trevor Deeks and his Comprehensive Mechanical backed 2005 Grand Am finished number one in the qualifying rounds with Jack Brohman chasing him with a close second place in his supercharged Nazca Racing ’69 Camaro.

Although a stiff head-wind challenged the racers all day, E.T.s and speeds were good and the entertainment was great!

Eliminations on Sunday afternoon were run under completely different climatic conditions, but the competition levels remained consistent with Saturday’s finishes.

In a pre-event interview, Larry Dobbs indicated that he was determined to keep his 2012 NDRA AFC championship intact and he certainly accomplished that in this, his first time in the seat for this year’s series. He piloted his Sportz Tent sponsored ’02 Trans Am to a 5.81 second @ 241.02 mph win over Dylan Hache’s 6.10 / 219.08 pass in his ’02 For Wheels Auto Care Firebird . In the same run, he took the day’s low E.T. and top speed.

Although, Pro Doorslammer Trevor Deeks’ E.T. in the final round was a little slower than his 6.58 quickest of the weekend, it was enough for his 6.65 / 211.81 mph victory. NDRA newcomer, Dan Aitken Jr. of Belle River, ON had to settle for runner up with a 7.09 @ 193.79 in his ’95 Ford Mustang.

Dave Earhart of Strathroy, ON missed the opening win that he was looking for, but did muscle the Earhart Heating & Cooling INC., Performance Unlimited sponsored ’02 Camaro to a really decent 217.02 mph fastest Pro Doorslammer speed of the event. Once again; proving that the old Pro Mod still has what it takes to produce big numbers.

It was a crowd pleasing opening for the National Drag Racing Association series. Rivalries were initiated and a high competition was set amongst the racers that will spell great entertainment for the rest of the season’s events.

NDRA President & Operations Director, Dale Boeru came away from the season opener with a gratified feeling and sense of accomplishment after all of the effort that was put into the pre-season. The work is far from done, but this was definitely a good start and a strong precursor to a successful 2013 season.

There, the Pro Doorslammers and Alcohol Funny Cars will team up with the NDRA Nitro Nostalgia Funny Cars for an even better entertainment package.

National Drag Racing Association Brings the Thunder to Grand Bend Motorplex

The May long weekend of 2012 marked a milestone in Canadian drag racing as the National Drag Racing Association introduced its Alcohol Funny Car Series presented by Ohsweken Speedway. They opened their season at the RPM Magazine/LUCAS OIL present the Rudy Helds Performance Centre “Spring Blowout” at Grand Bend Motorplex with some of the finest TA/FCs in the country; to the sheer delight of the crowds.

Well, they’re back at Grand Bend this weekend (May 18 – 19) for the 2013 RPM Magazine/LUCAS OIL present the “Spring Blowout”! This year, the NDRA is bringing more thundering excitement along with the addition of their Pro Doorslammer teams.

Not only will fans be treated to the spectacular power of the 3,000 HP floppers hitting speeds of more than 250 mph, but they will be right there for the NDRA’s intro of an amazing contingent of six-second, 200 mph door cars!

Combined, the two classes feature unique, crowd pleasing new and retro body styles and a variety of engine combinations that are sure to keep eye-balls glued to the quarter-mile from the staging lanes to the finish beam. It would be an understatement to say that the National Drag Racing Association is going to bring BIG entertainment to the grounds of Grand Bend Motorplex this weekend.

The teams have been working feverishly; prepping and testing for their 2013 series opening event on Canadian soil. Dave Earhart – A Champion of Canadian Drag Racing

Strathroy, ON – May 16, 2013 - There is no doubt that this weekend’s “Spring Blowout” presented by RPM Magazine and Lucas Oil at Grand Bend Motorplex (Grand Bend, ON) will open a new chapter in Canadian drag racing.

The National Drag Racing Association introduces doorslammers to their entertainment package on Saturday (May 18) and it was all because of Strathroy, Ontario’s Dave Earhart. His passion to give Canadian Pro Mods a “north of the border” race series initiated what is destined to become one of the best in Southern Ontario and all of Canada.

After two successful seasons since Dave lead the Heads Up Racing Association (HURA), he came to a crossroad; trying to balance the demanding organization and marketing of an obviously popular series and his own racing operation … not to mention his busy Earhart Heating & Cooling INC business.

That’s when he and NDRA Director of Operations, Dale Boeru got together to meld the doorslammers into the already established and successful National Drag Racing Association race program.

“I was thrilled that Dale took over what I had started! His professional promotion and marketing skills are just what was needed to take Canadian Pro Mod racing to the next level. In the next couple of years, this series is going to be one of the best in Southern Ontario!”

Now Earhart is focusing solely on his 2013 season performance and particularly on winning the opening race at Grand Bend. “I picked up the win at the inaugural (2011) HURA event, so I am after the same in the first season of the doorslammers in the NDRA series.”

He continues, “We have a limited season with three or four races. I’ve been thinking about this all winter. Obviously, I’d like to win them all, but we’ll see where it goes.”

When I spoke with Dave, he and the Earhart Racing crew were in the final stages to ready the 2002 Chevrolet Camaro for testing and this weekend’s competition. It will still run with its 526-cubic inch KB Olds mill with Kobelco 14-71 supercharger on top. “It’s old but absolutely dependable. This is my 14^th year with the car and it continues to perform like new. With some data upgrades we are confident that our goal for consistent 6.50s is totally achievable.” He adds that he has switched back to a 3-speed shifter from the 2-speed that he has used for the past two years, simply because he wants some more challenge with the clutch. “We ran the 2-speed and it was great! No problems what-so-ever. I just want more to do in the car … not just wave to the crowd.” This guy is a driver!

Not only is Earhart a damned good racer, but here is a guy who is dedicated to the growth of Pro Mod and all drag racing in Canada. His passion for the sport was definitely apparent through our entire interview. He has been a good friend of Canadian Drag Racer Magazine and an outstanding supporter of the NDRA from the beginning. Dave promotes drag racing off the track too: attending car shows and chatting with anyone who shows interest.

Not only does he have a quest for winning, but he places an importance with giving the spectators a good show. This is what helps to put “bums in the bleachers” which is so important for the growth of Canadian drag racing and makes his fit with the NDRA so right.

Behind the scenes, Dave has a great crew who he emphatically thanks for their dedicated support. The team is led by crew chief, Simon Couto and includes Chris Melo, Sherry Earhart, and Tanya Vieira.

Canadian Racing Legend Ready for 2013 Campaign

Welland, ON – May 14,2013 – With over 40 years in the race game and coming into his 32^nd in funny cars, Canadian drag racing legend, Larry Dobbs of Welland, ON is readying for a dynamic 2013 season.

It looks like it will be a pretty busy year for the Kardiac Kids Racing and the 2002 Pontiac Firebird TA/FC. Their planned schedule includes up to eight NHRA contests and all four of the National Drag Racing Association (NDRA) series events.

Dobbs took the NDRA Alcohol Funny Car championship in 2012 and has his sights set on a repeat for 2013.

With Highland, North Carolina’s Mark Rogers at the controls, Larry is expecting plenty of success when the car is campaigning down south. “Mark is a great driver and brings a fantastic crew with him when we hit the NHRA events. They’re all a bunch of super guys!”

Kardiac Kids Racing has already put some rubber down at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Gainesville’s Auto Plus Raceway back in February. A couple of broken parts denied them a Division 2 win.

When they returned to Gainesville for the Gatornationals in March, qualifying presented a few challenges and a red light took them out of the game in round one.

Hey! It takes a couple of times out to get rid of the kinks and as the saying goes: “That’s drag racing, folks!”

The car is back on Canadian soil and is prepped for the first of the NDRA racing series at Grand Bend Motorplex’s “Spring Blowout” presented by RPM Magazine and Lucas Oil this weekend (May 18 – 19).

Dobbs, himself, will be in the harness and ready to take one of the fastest roots Top Alcohol Funny Cars down Route 1320 and across the stripe to defend his champion title. He is well aware that his NDRA adversaries are gunning for him, but that’s exactly what drives him and earns him the “legend” status.

That said; I came away from our interview with the very clear sense that Dobbs has extreme high regard for every one of the NDRA racers and all who he lines up with in any competition. Although winning is a priority, above all this guy exudes a love for drag racing in general and certainly, the continued growth of the sport in Canada. He’s a real good guy and a true sportsman in every sense of the word.

As far as their season, this side of the border goes, Larry has this to say. “We’re really looking forward to 2013 and hope to help with building Funny Car racing in Eastern Ontario and ultimately, Canada. We fully support the National Drag Racing Association’s energy and goal to bring a high profile to the class and plan to do all four of their 2013 events.” He adds, “Personally, I want to thank the folks at Ohsweken Speedway (Ohsweken, ON) for their great sponsorship of the NDRA series too.”

Taking the entire season into count, he continues, “Besides the NDRA races, our plan is for seven or eight NHRA outings with Mark Rogers in the seat. We have already taken in two at Gainesville at the LODRS divisional in February and the Gatornationals in March.”

“During the winter, we’ve done a few changes to the car. We installed a new roll cage which is two inches taller; allowing the driver to see the grove. This also required re-mounting the body two inches higher. The supercharger was also re-certed and freshened over the winter.”

“This season we will try to pay more attention to varying starting line conditions–then making tuning changes to get down the track on race day. With this focus we are looking forward to another winning season.”

Dobbs recognizes that Kardiac Kids Racing’s success is contingent on more than a driver alone. He expressed huge pride and thanks to his crew chief, Kevin Dobbs and the rest of the pit team including Tyler Scott, George Monahan, Bruce Ellson, Andy Kittle, K.C. Kovacs, Les Kovacs and Avril Tomimatsu.

NDRA Adds Power to the Beauty at London’s Classic Car Cruz-In

As the National Drag Racing Association gears up for their second season of amazing power and entertainment, they will be on hand at London, Ontario’s Classic Car Cruz-In on Sunday, May 5th to showcase their teams and cars.

They will be promoting their upcoming series opener at the RPM Magazine / Lucas Oil “Spring Blowout” at Grand Bend Motorplex on May 18 and 19.

Xylotek Solutions Bolsters the NDRA Series for 2013

The National Drag Racing Association will present two racing classifications in 2013 with its Alcohol Funny Car Series entering its second season of competition, while the newly added Pro Doorslammer division will provide spectators with an enhanced dose of high-octane entertainment.

Funny Car and Doorslammer fans will get a chance for up close and personal interaction with some of the cars, drivers and crews of the fastest sport on earth.

On hand at the NDRA booth will be Dylan Hache and his 3,000hp, 2002 Firebird Alcohol Funny Car that runs at 250 mph in the five-second range.  Representing the Doorslammer dimension of the NDRA will be a trio of supercharged 2,500 plus horsepower Pro Doorslammers of Dave Earhart with his ’02 Camaro, Jack Brohman and his 1969 Camaro SS along with Al Martorino and his ’06 Mustang.

Also at the show, renowned Canadian Alcohol Funny Car driver, Paul Noakes will showcase his ’02 Mustang and greet his many fans throughout the weekend. Noakes was the NDRA’s 2012 Top Alcohol Funny Car winner of the Stratford Spectacular Hot August Nationals at Ontario’s Grand Bend Motorplex as well at Cayuga Dragway’s Canadian Nitro Nationals and placed 10^th in the NHRA, Division 3 TA/FC. He has an amazing personal best performance of 259 mph in 5.60 seconds!

All of the National Drag Racing Association cars are sure to draw a crowd as they do at the Ontario drag strips where they put on some of the best high speed entertainment in motorsports.

The Speed & Custom Car Show runs Friday, March 22 (4 PM – 10PM), Saturday, March 23 (10 AM – 10 PM) and Sunday, March 24 (10 AM – 4 PM) at the Western Fair District – Agriplex Building, 845 Florence St., London ON.
