August 12, 2012 – Grand Bend, ON – The skies threatened all day long at Grand Bend Motorplex but that didn’t put a damper on the action on the track for the NDRA Alcohol Funny Car Series presented by Ohsweken Speedway. Paul Noakes took the top qualifying spot by just four one-thousandths of a second over series 
points leader Larry Dobbs. Noakes and tuner Les Mellows powered the Euclid/Meritor sponsored Mustang to the top spot during the second of three qualifying sessions on the day. Dobbs and his Sportz by Napier Firebird held the number one position after the first session with a 5.818 elapsed time, only to be bumped to the number two spot by Noakes during the second session when he posted a 5.814 ET. Noakes decided to sit out the final qualifying session while Dobbs, after sitting out the second session because of an adventure off the end of the track during his first run, opted to take one last crack at the quarter mile with quickly improving atmospheric conditions posing a great opportunity for him to regain the top spot. Dobbs’ car left hard but began drifting towards the center line at about half track at which point he opted to lift, rather than try to muscle it down the entire 1320 feet. With only Brian White and his Freeman Farms/Whites Auto Speed Avenger left to run during the final session, Mother Nature reared her head putting an end to the days racing activities with a strong downpour. White sits third in the order, followed by Dylan Hache and his For Wheels Auto Care Firebird. Vince Rastelli in his Vince’s Auto Wrecking Corvette is fifth, with Ron Bankes and his Bankes Marine Services Firebird holding down the sixth spot. Eliminations for the NDRA Alcohol Funny Car Series presented by Ohsweken Speedway are scheduled for 11:15 AM today.
